CARMINE STREET GUITARS – ★★★☆ – A short mosaic of moments in a small NYC guitar shop where the instruments are hand made (would love to own one!) and stories are shared. Nice doc, but okay to wait for TV. #MIFF2019

Nine films down, and not a single dud so far! Very pleased with the offerings at #MIFF2019 this year. I’d like to think I am getting better at choosing my films better, but I’m sure that’s not the case. The sessions at the Plenary at MCEC were better than I expected, though the seats were a little uncomfortable. The theatre at the Sofitel hotel exceeded expectations by far – who knew there was such a great theatre sitting there all this time? Taking a break from the festival tomorrow, but will be back in force on Tuesday and have high hopes that the streak of great films continues.
ANIMALS – ★★★☆ – The story of two late 20s/early 30s girlfriends living in Ireland, as they go through a phase of life between singledom towards settling down. Enjoyable enough, and nicely made. #MIFF2019
GIVE ME LIBERTY – ★★★★ – What a film with heart. Often amusing drama about the son of Russian immigrants working as a van driver to assist people with disability, but who is constantly asked to juggle multiple competing demands. #MIFF2019
The absolutely awesome roof of the Capitol Theatre. So glad this venue is back for #MIFF2019
