Force of Destiny (not rated)

I don’t rate films if I don’t feel that it’s fair to. Sometimes that’s because I fall asleep. This time it was because the thin air of the crowded hamer hall made me feel dizzy and almost pass out. (But that didn’t happen, luckily). It did mean that for the second half of the film I was resting my eyes, concentrating on deep breathing instead…

So, what I will say is this: The film was quite good from what I saw; it’s the story of a divorced artist with an young adult aged daughter and his journey from every day life to finding out he has cancer. This kind of topic can easily be done to create tear-jerker moments, or Big Drama, but this film was neither, and in a good way. It was a great expression of what it might feel like to have it happen. I particularly liked the camera work, and the use of the main characters inner voice narration to express feelings throughout.

Will try and watch it again one day.

Here’s a list of the films that I’d see if it weren’t for scheduling conflicts, I’ll keep it as a reference so that I can hopefully catch any I miss at MIFF later on…

That’s 72 films! If I get to one out of three, I’ll be happy.

Hard to believe it’s been 10 years since I started blogging my MIFF adventures. Some years of late have been lean, but I’ve bought another passport ticket and hope to see around 30 films this year. It’s pretty busy times, but I’ll do my best to at least give a rating for each film I watch.

Also, welcome to the new blog site. Blogspot treated me well but was looking pretty dated, so here we are on Tumblr. One good thing is that I’ve been able to merge the four different blogspot blogs over into this one site, so if you hit the archive button at the top of the screen, you can scroll back through all the posts from the past.

Coming soon; the list of film that I’d like to watch (though some will have to wait for viewing down the track)
